A History of Historyonics...
Historyonics Theatre Company was founded in 2010 by Chris Hudson with bringing the past to life in comical and dramatic theatrical form. Our first show, The History of Britain (2000 Years in 2 Hours!), played to packed houses at the Corpus Playroom in Cambridge before going to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In 2012, A Muse’s Will was our entry in the Cambridge Drama Festival, where Fran Burgoyne picked up the award for Best Actress for her role as the Muse and where the script was runner up in the Best New Play category and was also put forward for the George Taylor Memorial Award for One Act Playwriting. Our next production, in 2013, was As You Like It, set in the swinging sixties. It was our most ambitious show to date and received great reviews from critic and audiences alike. 2014 was our busiest year to date, with Broken Soldier, another new play by Chris Hudson, performed at the Cambridge Drama Festival and the Museum of Cambridge, and General Darcy and the Girl, written by Victoria Vera and performed by Rosina Piovani, performed as part of the SOLO Festival in London. 2016 saw The Two Gentlemen of Verona, our co-production with Combined Actors of Cambridge, directed by Chris Hudson at the ADC Theatre, culminating in a sold out performance on the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. Our next production is Nothing Great Is Easy, a one-man show about the life of Captain Matthew Webb, the first person to swim the English Channel. This will be performed at the Corpus Playroom in Cambridge from 27-31 July, directed by Rosina Piovani and written and performed by Chris Hudson.
